Jeju Island

A Haven of Wind, Stone, and Sea

Tell me to pick one place in Korea where I would live forever. Come on, I dare you. No? Ok, I'll tell you anyway. The place I could easily live forever, if it were only up to me, with no other factors, I would choose Jeju. The reason for this is the volcanic rocks that formed the ground, the sea smell that fills the air and coats my hair, or maybe it would have to be fresh seafood caught that day and served on the table. There are so many more things I could talk about, but for your own sanity, I will address the island itself.

Jeju Island is composed of volcanic materials that rise all the way to the top of Mount Halla at an astounding 6,398ft high, with a lake right in the middle of the crater. The island is 40 miles from east to west, and 16 miles north to south. Meaning the island itself is quite small. Jeju is extremely biodiverse, calling 10,000 species its home. 3,340 plants, 5,000 land animals, and 2,160 marine life fill and surround the island. I call this place my favorite and most recommended because after you feel the air, see the palm trees, and taste the native oranges, there's no turning back.

Jeju

Ocean Waves

I hope this sound surrounds you with comfort, as you imagine the waves crashing along the shores of Jeju island.
